Support Affordable Healthcare: Why Aslan Health Is Refocusing on ALICE Patients

We’re Choosing to Serve ALICE—But We Can’t Do It Alone

At Aslan Health, we’ve made a difficult but necessary decision.

Starting May 25, we will no longer participate in PMAP (Prepaid Medical Assistance Program) insurance plans.

On the surface, that may sound like a step back.

In reality, it’s a step deeper into our mission.

Because this decision allows us to focus on the people who are most often overlooked—the ALICE population.

The People Caught in the Middle

ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

These are the people you see every day:

  • The parent working two jobs but still behind on bills
  • The small business owner paying out of pocket for everything
  • The family with insurance they can’t afford to use

They are working hard. They are doing everything right.

And still—healthcare remains out of reach.

Not because it doesn’t exist.
But because it isn’t built for them.

Why This Change Matters

As a small nonprofit clinic, we’ve learned something over the past year:

We cannot serve everyone well.

When we try, the system pulls us toward complexity, delays, and administrative burden. That pulls time, energy, and resources away from patient care.

So we made a choice.

We are choosing to focus on:

  • Patients without insurance
  • Patients with high deductibles
  • Patients avoiding care because of cost

We are choosing ALICE.

But here’s the reality:

ALICE patients cannot fully fund their own care.

The Hard Truth About Affordable Healthcare

At Aslan Health, we’ve worked hard to keep care affordable.

  • $75 for a visit
  • Transparent pricing
  • No surprise bills

But the true cost of providing that care is much higher.

Even with patients paying what they can, there is still a gap.

That gap is what keeps the doors open—or closes them.

This Is Where You Come In

If you’ve ever wondered whether your support makes a difference, this is it.

Your donation helps:

  • Cover the cost of visits for patients who cannot afford care
  • Provide medications and labs for those with no other options
  • Keep access open for families trying to avoid medical debt
  • Ensure someone gets care before it becomes an emergency

You are not just giving to an organization.

You are making healthcare possible for someone who would otherwise go without.

A Clear and Present Need

Right now, clinics like ours are disappearing across the country.

Costs are rising. Reimbursements are shrinking. Systems are strained.

We feel that pressure too.

And yet, every day, patients continue to walk through our doors who have nowhere else to go.

We are committed to being here for them.

But we cannot do it without support.

Final Thought

It would be easier to follow the system.

Instead, we are choosing to build something different.

Something simpler.
Something more accessible.
Something centered on people—not paperwork.

And with your help, we can keep doing exactly that.
