When people hear the words nonprofit clinic or affordable healthcare, they sometimes make an understandable assumption: the care must be different.
Maybe there are fewer options. Maybe patients should expect less. Maybe lower prices mean a lower standard of care.
That isn’t what we’re building at Aslan Health.
Our goal has never been to create a lesser version of healthcare for people with fewer financial resources. Our goal is to provide excellent healthcare that anyone in our community would want to receive—and to offer it at a price ordinary people can afford.
We don’t practice poverty medicine.
We strive to practice excellent medicine.
Affordable Shouldn’t Mean Lower Quality
Free clinics, charitable clinics, and organizations specifically serving people experiencing poverty or homelessness have an important place in our healthcare system. They provide essential services, and many communities would suffer tremendously without them.
Aslan Health is built around a somewhat different idea.
There is a large group of people who may earn too much to qualify for many assistance programs but still struggle with the actual cost of healthcare. They work. They raise families. They pay mortgages or rent, buy groceries, repair cars, and try to save for the future.
Then someone gets sick.
Suddenly, a $300 or $400 medical bill is competing with groceries, the electric bill, or a car payment.
Those families may never describe themselves as poor or even “in need.” They simply need excellent healthcare at a reasonable price.
That’s one of the reasons Aslan exists.
We Want You to Choose Aslan
We don’t want someone to come to Aslan because they believe it’s the only place they can afford or the only level of care they deserve.
We want people to choose Aslan because they receive excellent care here.
That means taking time to listen. It means treating people with dignity. It means carefully managing chronic conditions, providing preventive care, treating acute illnesses, and helping patients understand their health and their options.
It also means advocating for patients when they need services outside our walls.
If you need a test, medication, specialist, imaging, or another service, our job shouldn’t end when we hand you a referral. Whenever possible, we want to help you understand your options, compare costs, navigate the healthcare system, and find a path forward that makes sense both medically and financially.
That’s not “extra” care for people in need.
That’s the level of primary care we believe everyone should receive.
Not Free—Affordable
There’s another important distinction in the Aslan model: we aren’t trying to make everything free.
We intentionally keep our prices affordable, but we generally ask patients to contribute toward the cost of their care.
Affordable and free aren’t the same thing.
We believe there’s value in creating a healthcare model where patients, donors, community partners, and Aslan all participate in making care possible. A patient’s payment may cover only a portion of what it actually costs to provide the visit, but that contribution helps us build a sustainable model based on partnership rather than charity alone.
At the same time, we know that even an affordable price can sometimes become a barrier. When someone genuinely cannot afford care, we want to help find a solution.
The goal isn’t to make healthcare free.
The goal is to make excellent healthcare attainable.
Healthcare for Anyone
You don’t have to prove that you’re poor to walk through our doors.
You don’t have to identify yourself as “in need.”
And you certainly don’t need to apologize for choosing Aslan when you could receive healthcare somewhere else.
We serve people without insurance. We serve people who are underinsured. We serve working families. We serve people going through difficult seasons. And we serve people who simply appreciate straightforward healthcare, transparent pricing, and a clinic that takes the time to help them navigate the healthcare system.
Ultimately, we want Aslan to be the kind of clinic where someone could afford to go somewhere else—and still chooses us.
Because the provider listens.
Because the staff cares.
Because the price is clear.
Because someone helps when the healthcare system becomes confusing.
And, most importantly, because the care is excellent.
Excellence Shouldn’t Depend on Income
For us, success isn’t providing “good enough” healthcare at a lower price.
Success means providing healthcare we would want for ourselves, our own families, and the people we love—and finding ways to make that same quality of care accessible to our neighbors.
That requires generosity from donors and community partners. It requires careful stewardship. It requires keeping overhead low and continually asking whether there’s a better, simpler, or less expensive way to accomplish something without compromising the quality of patient care.
Affordable healthcare does not have to mean bare-bones healthcare.
Nonprofit healthcare does not have to mean second-tier healthcare.
And someone’s ability to pay should never determine the level of dignity, attention, and excellence they receive.
At Aslan Health, we’re not trying to build a lesser healthcare system for people with less.
We’re working to make excellent healthcare accessible to more of our neighbors.
That is the standard we want for Aslan.
Excellent medicine. Accessible prices. Caring for our Neighbors.
