Faith-based nonprofit Aslan Health has served over 1,200 patients in its first year

One year ago, a small clinic quietly opened its doors in downtown St. Cloud with a bold mission: to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare to those often overlooked by the traditional healthcare system. Today, Aslan Health celebrates its first anniversary, having served over 1,200 unique patients and becoming a trusted resource for individuals and families in need.
Aslan Health is a nonprofit, faith-based primary care clinic located at 1400 W St. Germain Street. It was founded with a clear and Christ-centered purpose: to remove barriers to care and to meet people where they are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In a healthcare landscape that can often feel overwhelming or out of reach, especially for those without insurance, Aslan Health offers a different kind of clinic experience—one grounded in compassion, dignity, and hope.
The clinic provides a wide range of services including walk-in and appointment-based primary care, chronic disease management, preventive screenings, lab testing, and lifestyle counseling. Patients are cared for regardless of their income, insurance status, or background. For those without insurance, Aslan Health offers a same-day pay rate of $75 per visit, with additional discounts available through a sliding scale and charitable care fund. Cost transparency and affordability are at the core of the clinic’s patient-first model.
In its first year of operation, the majority of those served at Aslan Health were either uninsured or part of the ALICE population (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed)—individuals who work hard yet still struggle to afford basic healthcare needs. Many had delayed care for years due to cost, fear, or confusion about where to go. At Aslan Health, they’ve found a place that not only provides medical care but also listens, encourages, and treats the whole person.
But Aslan’s impact goes beyond the walls of the clinic.
Over the past year, the organization has built strong partnerships with local schools, churches, and community organizations to extend care into the neighborhoods where it’s needed most. One example is its partnership with St. Cloud Area School District 742 to provide free sports physicals for students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate in school athletics. Clinic staff brought services directly to the schools, ensuring that transportation or a lack of coverage didn’t prevent kids from joining their teams.
Aslan Health also became a provider for the Minnesota SAGE and SagePlus programs, which offer free cancer screenings and heart health services for qualifying individuals. These programs play a vital role in early detection and prevention, especially for women who may not have another way to access routine screenings.
To meet the growing needs of St. Cloud’s Hispanic community, Aslan Health launched Camino Contigo, a Spanish-language outreach and support initiative. This program helps bridge cultural and language barriers by providing health education, advocacy, and clinical care in Spanish, creating a welcoming environment for families who might otherwise be hesitant to seek care.
Aslan Health’s model is intentionally focused on removing the most common access barriers—cost, transportation, language, and even fear. The clinic is staffed with caring providers, operates with extended and flexible hours, and welcomes both walk-ins and scheduled appointments. Every aspect of its operation is designed to reduce friction and restore trust in healthcare.
Looking ahead, the need for Aslan Health’s services is expected to grow significantly. With some employers projecting health insurance premium increases of up to 60% next year, and ongoing changes to Medicaid coverage, many more individuals and families will find themselves without affordable access to care. In response, Aslan Health is increasing its outreach efforts to offer Christ-centered, compassionate care that respects life, honors dignity, and supports whole-person health.
Aslan Health draws its name from the beloved lion in The Chronicles of Narnia, a symbol of healing, strength, and restoration. In just one year, the clinic has become a beacon of light in the community—offering not just healthcare, but hope.
