October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — But Screenings at Aslan Health Are Available All Year Long

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Caring for Women, Body, Mind, and Spirit — All Year Long

Each October, we pause to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a national movement that shines a light on prevention, early detection, and the power of hope. It’s a time to honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and encourage women everywhere to take that important step toward getting screened.

At Aslan Health, our message this month is simple:
Don’t wait for October to care for your health.
We’re here for you every day of the year with affordable, compassionate, whole-person care — and that includes free cancer screenings for those who qualify through the SAGE program.

Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters

Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States during their lifetime. But thanks to early detection and improved treatments, survival rates have greatly increased. When breast cancer is found early — before symptoms appear and while it’s still in the localized stage — the five-year survival rate is over 99%.

That’s why regular screenings are so important. A mammogram can detect cancer long before it can be felt, allowing for treatment that is more effective and less invasive. For many women, that simple screening can be life-saving.

At Aslan Health, we see screening not as a fearful event, but as an act of self-care — a way of honoring the body that God has given you. Taking time to care for your health allows you to continue caring for your family, your community, and your calling.

The SAGE Program: Free Screenings for Those Who Qualify

We know that cost and insurance can be major barriers to preventive care. That’s why Aslan Health is proud to partner with the Minnesota Department of Health’s SAGE Program.

The SAGE (Screening, Awareness, and Guidance to Empower) Program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for Minnesotans who meet income and insurance guidelines. This includes:

  • Mammograms
  • Pap tests and pelvic exams
  • Follow-up testing if results are abnormal
  • Support and referrals for further care if needed

Our staff can help you complete the simple eligibility form and get connected right here at the clinic. If you qualify, your cancer screening is completely free — no copays, no hidden bills, no insurance needed.

This program is one of the ways Aslan Health helps remove barriers to care, ensuring that every woman has access to life-saving screenings regardless of her financial situation.

Whole-Person Care: More Than Just a Screening

At Aslan Health, our approach to care follows our Model of Healthy Living, which addresses seven interconnected areas of health: faith life, work life, movement, nutrition, emotional health, friends and family, and medical care. We believe that true health means caring for the whole person — body, mind, and spirit.

A breast cancer screening is part of caring for your physical body, but it also touches your emotional and spiritual well-being. Fear, uncertainty, and anxiety often surround the idea of getting screened. That’s why our team takes time to listen, pray with you if you wish, and walk with you through every step of the process. You’re never just a patient here — you’re part of our community.

Faith, Courage, and Community

We draw strength from our faith as we care for our patients. Scripture reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7,

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

When you take steps to care for your health, you are acting in that spirit — courageously, faithfully, and wisely. You’re choosing to live in the fullness of life that God desires for you.

At Aslan Health, we see these moments of care as sacred opportunities to love our neighbors. Our providers are here not only to care for your medical needs but to offer encouragement, prayer, and compassion. Whether you are receiving a screening, managing a chronic condition, or simply coming in for a check-up, our mission is to care for your whole self — the way Jesus cared for both body and soul.

You Don’t Have to Wait Until October

Breast cancer awareness doesn’t end when the pink ribbons come down. We encourage you to schedule your screening — or simply walk in — anytime during the year.
Our clinic offers walk-in visits, evening hours, and Saturday availability, making it easier to fit your health into your busy schedule. You don’t need an appointment or insurance to get started.

If you’re unsure whether you qualify for the SAGE program, we’ll help you find out. If you don’t qualify, our affordable cash-pay options and sliding fee scale make preventive care accessible to everyone in our community.

Take the Step — We’ll Walk with You

Maybe you’ve been putting off your mammogram because you’re nervous, busy, or unsure where to go. Maybe you haven’t had a Pap test in years. Wherever you are in your journey, you’re not alone. The team at Aslan Health is ready to welcome you with compassion, respect, and the care you deserve.

When you walk through our doors, you’ll find more than a clinic — you’ll find a community that believes in you and believes in hope.
