🩺 Back-to-School Health: Understanding Minnesota’s Vaccine Requirements and How Aslan Health Can Help

At Aslan Health, we believe that every child deserves a healthy start—body, mind, and spirit. As families prepare for a new school year, one of the most important ways to protect your child’s health (and the health of our community) is by staying up to date on required immunizations.

Vaccines protect children from serious illnesses and help keep schools and neighborhoods healthy. Through the Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) program, Aslan Health proudly provides free or low-cost vaccines to eligible children—so that cost is never a barrier to protection.

🏫 Minnesota’s School Immunization Requirements

Under Minnesota Statute §121A.15, all children enrolled in school, child care, or early education programs must be immunized against certain preventable diseases, unless they have a medical or conscientious exemption.

Required Vaccines by Age Group

For Kindergarten through 6th Grade:

  • DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) – 5 doses
  • Polio – 4 doses
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 doses
  • Hepatitis B – 3 doses
  • Varicella (Chickenpox) – 2 doses

For 7th–12th Grade:

  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis booster) – 1 dose after age 10
  • Meningococcal (MenACWY) – 1 dose, plus a booster at age 16
  • MMR, Polio, Hepatitis B, and Varicella – same as earlier requirements

(Some children may also need additional vaccines depending on their health history, age, or missed doses.)

💉 The Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) Program

The MnVFC program is a statewide initiative that ensures every child in Minnesota can receive recommended vaccines—at no cost if they meet eligibility criteria.

Your child qualifies for MnVFC if they are:

  • Uninsured
  • Underinsured (insurance does not cover vaccines)
  • Enrolled in Medicaid or Medical Assistance
  • American Indian or Alaska Native

At Aslan Health, we are a proud MnVFC provider. This means families can bring their children to our clinic for all school-required vaccines—without worrying about the cost. We believe finances should never stand in the way of your child’s health and school readiness.
