What makes Aslan Health Different?
Our goal at Aslan health is to remove the obstacles that get in the way of being healthy. We will have no appointments (walk in only) this will remove the constraints often caused by uncertainty in schedules, transportation issues, high demand for other aspects of time and accommodating to schedules that are pulled in many different directions. No appointments also means that you will have 3 minutes or 60 minutes, whatever you need for your appointment time. We will have evening hours to accommodate after-school and after-workday schedule needs. We will also have Saturday clinic to fit into the schedules that cannot take the time off work. Ability for you to fit health into your schedule verse you fitting into our schedule.
We specialize in Medicaid and Medicare to help lessen the burden of insurance navigation. We have a reasonable cash pay fee schedule and you will know what the cost of your care will be up front. We will also focus on the individual as a whole person (mind body and Spirit), knowing that the most impact on health comes from healthy behaviors not the few minutes you spend in the clinic. Our goal is to achieve health, not just treat sickness.
What is underserved medicine?
Bringing healthcare to those that don’t fit into the structure of the current health system. People classified as vulnerable or underserved typically receive fewer services because they face a host of economic, cultural, or physical barriers that hinder their access to health care. They are made up of people from racial and ethnic minorities, those from rural areas, and people with lower incomes, as well as children and people who are older. Though all benefit from a primary care healthcare home, this underserved population show a greater benefit from a primary care home that will quarterback their care and advocate for their well-being.
The fancy word is social determinants of health. Social determinants of health (SDOH) are the nonmedical factors that influence health outcomes. They are the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age. They include the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life. Aslan Health strives to close health care disparities with a model that removes obstacles to traditional healthcare caused by these social determinants of health.
Why is a clinic that specializes in service to the underserved needed?
These are our neighbors, members of our community, classmates of our children, those we go to church with and those we meet on the street. A healthy community is a strong community.
When the Samaritan went to the man, he bandaged his wounds (medical) he put him on his donkey (transportation) he took him to the Inn (housing) and provided for him: water, food, safety (logistic). Jesus in this parable, in a few simple words, described the perfect response to meet a person’s basic needs. We live in a broken world, specializing in underserved medicine actively engages that brokenness.
The Affordable Care Act made health insurance available, however it left nothing affordable. Large percentages of the population still limit and avoid medical care because of cost.
Mission of Aslan health
Caring for the mind, body, and spirit. Jesus never separated healing and the gospel. We Love God and Love people. Our mission is narrowed down to loving our neighbor by meeting their medical needs. Starting with where they are at and working towards their definition of health.
Aslan Health weaves together healing and gospel principles, emphasizing a core love for God. We offer tailored practical assistance for individual well-being.
Who is our target population?
Our target population are those whose current place in life impedes their ability to receive healthcare. This stretches from the no-income to low income, to those that are uninsured to underinsured, to those that don’t understand the navigation of the health system, to other obstacles that are unique to each individual.
Limitations: we will only accept Medicaid, Medicare and cash. We will give a detailed receipt of care for self-submission to other health insurance companies or cost share entities but will play no part in other insurance interactions.
The Aslan Way: our approach to health (1 Cor 13:4-8):
Love is patient; health is achieved through small changes that can be done consistently. We meet each patient where they are at and patiently walk beside them on their journey to health. Love is kind; kind is not weak, kind is compassionate. With our care, we strive to treat each individual through their story. Uniquely designing a model that brings them to health. Love dies not envy it is not proud it does not boast; Everyone deserves to “Be” healthy. There is no action in your past that can take your human dignity. Love does not needlessly offend. Love has good manners. It is courteous, polite, sensitive to the feelings of others and always uses tact. Love always protects, always trust and always hopes; Healthcare is confusing, a different language, a maze of confusion. The Aslan way is to act as the guide, the advocate, and the support. Love perseveres; Health is hard work with great reward! We are not here only for a one-time fix, we are here for your lifetime.
